Wei Zhang, O.D.

Expert Optometrist Dr. Wei Zhang

Dr. Wei Zhang is a licensed optometrist in the states of New York and New Jersey. He offers a full scope of optometric eye care that includes comprehensive eye health exams and specialty contact lenses. He provides diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases such as conjunctivitis, eye allergies, dry eyes and glaucoma. He also screens patients for age-related macular degeneration and ocular complications from diabetes. Dr. Zhang is certified in Cornea Refractive Therapy (CRT or orthokeratology), where special molds are used to reshape the cornea as an alternative to glasses, contacts, or LASIK. 

Dr. Zhang graduated from Fudan University in China with a bachelor’s degree in Zoology. He received his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from City University of New York, and conducted his postdoctoral research on molecular biology of cancer at Albert Einstein Medical College. Dr. Zhang was awarded a grant for young scientist from the National Institute of Health, and published several research papers in international science journals.  Dr. Zhang then switched his interest to optometry, and he received his doctorate in optometry from the prestigious The New England College of Optometry. He completed his residency in ocular diseases at the Veterans Administration Medical Center at Perry Point of Maryland. During his residency, he underwent extensive training in diagnosing and treating various eye diseases, participating in weekly ophthalmology rounds as well as assisting with glaucoma and cornea services at both Wilmer Eye Institute of Johns Hopkins Hospital, and Delmava Vitreoretinal Center in Maryland. 

Dr. Zhang is a member of several professional societies, including the American Optometric Association, the New York State Optometric Association, and the American Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control.
